Out back on our farm is an old, old apple orchard with a stream running through it.  I call it The Secret Garden.  In the early spring, Ramps, or wild leeks, carpet the ground along the stream - and with them are the Adder Tongues with their yellow turban blooms.  It's a beautiful sight, and one I look forward to every year.  Sometimes I'll only pick the Ramp leaves, but because we have literally thousands of them, sometimes I'll dig up the whole plant - very carefully.  This year I dug up a few whole plants and put them in a vase.  This painting is my tribute to these beautiful (and delicious) plants that grow on our property.  Nature has so many surprises for us!
